Stirling Highland Games is delighted to announce Lesley Paterson as its 2016 Games Chieftain.
Event Organiser Matt McGrandles said, ‘The more I look into this part of the highland games, the more it amazes me the number of hugely successful people we have from Stirling and Lesley is a shining light in that respect. I had no problem putting her forward for consideration at the last Board meeting where the committee gave their full approval.’
Lesley, who now stays in San Diego with her husband Simon started her sporting career as a youth rugby player at Stirling County RFC. She says, ‘I’m honoured to be chosen as Chieftain of the highland games as Stirling is my home town. I am really looking forward to the day.’
At 14 she transitioned from rugby to triathlon where she competed 17 times all over the world for the British and Scottish triathlon team. Her results would be the envy of most athletes from being Scottish Youth Triathlon Champion in 1995 to recently winning Xterra events across the US in 2015.
An area that Lesley really enjoys is her fitness coaching where she gets to pass on her life experiences to others, helping them achieve their goals and ambitions. Lesley adds, ‘I am hoping I can talk to and inspire the younger generation to go out there and follow their dreams. My motto is simple, you are more than a data point and email address.’
Lesley Paterson, the 2016 Games Chieftain of Stirling Highland Games will be officially welcoming games visitors at 12 noon on Saturday 20th August. Discounted tickets can be bought in advance plus we have a limited amount of Chieftains Tickets for an added Scottish experience.
